Teen Crafts: Bulletin Boards

If your teenager collects pictures of friends or celebrities or has other odds and end lying around or taped to his or her walls, try these bulletin board ideas. These ideas will give your teen the perfect place to organize and display photos and memorabilia, and he or she will have fun putting them together.

*These ideas will also work for smaller children’s rooms or play rooms, but younger kids will need some adult assistance.

Furry Bulletin Board

You will need a large picture frame (with the glass removed), a thin piece of craft wood or cork, and some cool faux fur (or other fun fabric). You will need some paint as well, if you want to paint the frame to match the faux fur. If using craft wood, you will also need thick quilt batting. Wrap the wood in batting and staple it to the back of the wood. Next, cover the wood or cork with faux fur. Glue in place or staple as close to the edge as possible. Turn wood or cork over and tri any excess. Place the finished piece in the frame and secure using the fasteners that would normally hold the glass and picture in place.

Bulletin Board Border

Pick up some thin cork tiles at a home improvement store or supercenter. Apply them to the wall the same way you would apply a border. They can be placed just below the ceiling, at eye level, or at chair rail height. Place the cork tiles as close together as possible to avoid gaps. Then just add some trim. You can trim both top and bottom edges, or one or the other. Use lace, beaded trim, denim, rope, plastic chain, or anything you else you desire to give it a custom look. Do one wall or do them all!
