Baking soda is another one of those inexpensive, versatile products. It can be used for so many different things around the house. Being a frugal mom, I’ve found dozens upon dozens of uses for baking soda around the house in every room!
These are just a few of my favorite uses.
Diaper Rash Soother
Put a half cup of baking soda in a warm bath. Soak for around 10-20 minutes. Let the skin air dry after the bath, and the diaper rash is almost better. I bet there is no pain and by the next day, it’s gone!
Carpet Deodorizer
If your carpet smells a bit musty or has any other unpleasant odor, sprinkle some baking soda on the carpet. Let it sit over night, and then vacuum it up the next day. The odor should be gone and you won’t have some long lingering commerical carpet deodorizer smell.
Facial Cleanser
Sprinkle some baking soda into your hands and use a bit of warm water to make a paste to clean your face with. Scrub gently and your face will feel refreshed. It’s a fantastic alternative to pricey cleansers.
Fabric Softener
Use baking soda as a fabric softener. You can either add it to the wash cycle, but for best results, add it to the rinse cycle. It can be made into a thicker substance by mixing in some water and placing in a fabric softener ball. It gets all the soap out real good and softens the clothes.
Tea Stain Removal
Baking soda is the best for cleaning tea stains out of plastic pitchers. This also works well in glass as well.
Shoe Odor Remedy
Sprinkle generous amount into sneakers or other shoes to help absorb odors. You don’t even have to clean it out, just refill when necessary.
Mosquito Bites
Mix a thick paste of baking soda and water and apply to the bites. In about 1 minute the itching stops and in about one hour the redness and swelling have gone away.
