Birthday Party Favors

How much fun would it be to make your own birthday party favors? Keeping kids busy with these projects is also a great way to help them contain their excitement until it’s time for the party.

Super Simple Treat Bags

You can use paper, poster board, wrapping paper or cool images printed from your computer to make treat bags. Using average size paper, 8 ½” x 11” or similar, fold the paper in half lengthwise. Fold in half the other way and cut along the new crease to create two squares. Glue, tape, or staple the sides together, leaving the top open. Fill with toys and candy and add a few strands of curling ribbon, peeking out randomly.

You can also make bags from felt or other inexpensive fabric. Cut to size and glue the side edges. Decorate as desired.

Another option is purchasing small gift bags, in either white, a color that coordinates with your theme, or in a variety of colors. Choose the simple ones that look like paper lunch sacks (or use lunch sacks). Have your children decorate the bags and fill them. Filling them is half the fun!

Easy Candy Cups

Birthday Party Favors candyIf your party has a theme, look for Dixie cups or other small party cups that will fit the theme or are available in a coordinating color. If you don’t particularly like what’s available, paint the cups with glue and cover with glitter. Fill the cups with candies. Set them on an oversized piece of clear or colored cellophane or sparkly tulle. Pull the ends up toward the center, covering the cup, and tie with ribbon. Fluff the tulle. Add a couple more strands of ribbon and curl the ends.

Other Fun Stuff

Pick up some little plastic dump trucks and fill the dump bed with candies. Cover tightly with cellophane, taping it in place.

Purchase cute heart, flower, or star shaped mini plastic boxes with lids and fill them will surprises. Wrap with tissue paper and ribbon.
