This past weekend my family visited the Adams Farm in Wilmington, Vermont. It’s a working farm that is friendly and has a lot of charm.
We walked into the gift shop and I was in heaven. Like many Vermont country stores, they actually do have soups to nuts, coffee mugs, maple syrup, pottery and so much more. On the second floor, beautiful quilts were displayed along with handmade sweaters and chilren’s outfits.
It was a weaver, knitter and crochet paradise since they sell many different types of yarn- balls of silk and other types, from animals on the farm.
The daily schedule of events offered great information and we rushed to Cuddle with Kittens in the back room. I’m not a cat person (love dogs) and I liked holding those fur balls. Children and adults had fun picking up the gray fur balls and hugging them. Other highlights on the daily schedule:
Bottle Fed the Calf
Goat Milking Demo
Bottle Fed the Kid Goats and Lambs
A Tractor Ride to the Trout Pond (they jump out of the water like crazy)
Pony Rides
Hay Jump (precisely what it says, jumping in hay!)
Purchase a basket of food for the animals ($5) and then get ready to have fun feeding the horse, calf, pigs, goats, sheep, chicken and turkeys.
It was a lovely time and my son loved the whole experience. Here are some upcoming events:
From July to September, Adams Farm offers an Evening Wagon Ride and Bonfire party on Wednesday and Saturday nights (July through September.) Reservations are necessary. There’s live music, ghost stories, and marshmallow roasting.
On August 9th they offer a Full Moon Wagon Ride and Bonfire party. Rusty DeWees, a comedian from Vermont will be performing on August 12th. That same night they will light a 30-foot bonfire. On the 19th, the 3rd annual Spinning Olympics will occur.
September:
9/23: Sheep to Shawl: This event sounds like fun. You can watch spinners and weavers make a shawl in five hours.
9/23-24: Maple Open House Weekend. View the sugar groves in the middle of the Vermont woods. Learn about maple trees and the process of how that syrup bottle arrives at your breakfast table.
October:
10/7-8: Pumpkin Carving
10/7-8-14-21: Halloween Hayride and Bonfire. Enjoy apple fritters w/ maple syrup, marshmallow kabobs, and interactive ghost stories. Hmmm. Interactive? Sounds interesting. For more information go to www.adamsfamilyfarm.com
