Since my first car, a 1986 Mazda 626, I have been in the habit of naming my cars. We do after all spend a great deal of time with our cars, we yell at them, pamper them on occasion, and in the case of my Mazda in the last days of its life, often congratulate them on actually arriving where you are trying to go. It makes sense that we should also give our cars names, they have a lot of personality, and they should have a name just like everyone else.
In Pixars movie “Cars” all of the cars have names and personalities…and they also talk. The movie is about a car named Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) a racecar who gets lost on his way to the race of the century. During his unexpected detour he gets in a little trouble in the town of Radiator Springs and is forced to repair a local road before he is allowed to leave.
Lighting gets helps from two locals Tow Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) and Sally Carrera (voice of Bonnie Hunt) and learns that life in the fast lane may not be all its cracked p to be.
Those of you that are NASCAR fans will pick up on the voices of Richard Petty, Mario Andretti, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Michael Schumacher voicing vehicle versions of them in the film.
The movie is exactly what you expect from Pixar who has dazzled audiences in the past with films like Finding Nemo and The Incredibles.
I didn’t like Cars as much as the former two Pixar releases, but it is still a fantastic film and well worth a watch. There are a few scary moments and a tiny bit of language in the film, but nothing that should keep your from bringing any school aged child. The only downside is the movies length one hour and 54 minutes. If you have a child who can’t sit still for two hours you may want to wait and catch this one on DVD rather than seeing in theaters.
