You don’t have to become an interior decorator, or hire one, to add some interest to your home décor.
The following are ten simple ways to add a little drama, with little effort:
10. Inject splashes of color. You don’t have to repaint or install new carpeting to add color. Try changing window treatments, adding a throw rug, or recovering accent pillows. Add a piece of artwork or some colorful new accessories.
9. Add some great texture. Using suede, leather, wicker, bamboo, and other textures makes a space more interesting, even in a monochromatic design plan.
8. Add layers. Layers add softness and richness and will instantly dress up the feel of your space. Add throw blankets, area rugs, valances over blinds, or sheers beneath curtains.
7. Make a minimal space look more lived in. Leave an open book or magazine on the coffee table. Place a stack of books on an end table. Leave a throw lying loose wherever it falls instead of folding it or draping it precisely.
6. Use one a one of a kind accessory or piece of artwork. Create your own or purchase something truly unique that will inspire conversation. Look for shops that create handmade artwork and sculptures or check out a great antique shop. Use things as accessories that may have had other purposes originally.
5. Rearrange your furniture. An interior redesign can make a huge difference, even if you only move a few pieces. Move furnishings closer together to create a cozier feel.
4. Rearrange your accessories. Move your accessories around the room or trade with items in other spaces. Create new groupings or break up existing groupings and use single pieces.
3. Add life with great plants. Plants bring life to a space and dress it up. Whether you are great with live plants or prefer beautiful artificial ones, they will add interest to your space.
2. Add lighting. Any room that feels lighter and brighter will not only be more cheerful but also more interesting. Use lighting to accent special pieces or to brighten up corners and shadows.
1. Create a focal point. If you don’t have a natural focal point create one. Create a focal wall, add a great piece of artwork, or find an interesting architectural element for the space.
