Disney is the master of daily entertainment. Day in and day out, Walt Disney Resort areas across the globe put on show after show, entertaining thousands of guests each day.
Fantasmic, a show featured at both the Walt Disney World resort in Florida and the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California is one such show. And an amazing show it is, too. Featuring pyrotechnics, fireworks, projections on water (yes, water!) and live action, this is possibly one of Disney’s best shows to date.
The premise of Fantasmic hinges on dreams and nightmares. Our park mascot and hero, Mickey Mouse, once again takes a starring role in this extravaganza. Through the medium of images projected on water streams cascading upwards, we can see into Mickey’s dreams. Of course, Mickey’s dreams focus on over fifty years of Walt Disney’s film memories. From Cinderella to Snow White to Beauty and the Beast, Disney’s most memorable film moments are shown on water – a unique concept in and of itself.
However, as Mickey’s dreams progress, it isn’t long before the Disney villains themselves begin to see that they have the power to take over Mickey’s nocturnal musings. Soon, we are treated to the Snow White’s Evil Queen conjuring up some fantastic situations for our fair hero.
Fantasmic is one of the few shows in the Disney resorts that focuses on the Disney Villains, who just happen to be some of my favorite characters. Just some of the villains making an appearance are The Evil Queen, Jafar, and an amazing final battle with Maleficent in dragon form.
Of course, Mickey comes out on top when he realizes he has the power to overcome his nightmares and defeats Maleficent which opens up the show for characters from all sects of Disney’s kingdom to appear.
I really can’t go on enough about this show. It’s one of Disney’s greatest achievements, in my humble opinion.
If you’re visiting either the Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland California, you can catch this show nightly, weather permitting. The show takes place at Disney-MGM at Walt Disney World near the Tower of Terror and on the Rivers of America at Disneyland. See your park guide the day of your arrival for a complete listing of times. You can also visit Walt Disney World’s Fantasmic or Disneyland’s Fantasmic pages for more information.
