Crafts to Decorate Your Child’s Room

Help your child add his or her own decorative touches to the bedroom or playroom. There are several easy projects the two of you can do together that will make cute kids’ room accessories.

Wooden Letters

Wooden lettersYou can find full names and words as well as individual letters. Pre-cut wooden letters are fun to paint and decorate and your child can spell his or her name or a word that describes a child’s interests. Your youngster can spell out the name of a sport or create a message. You can arrange the letters on a shelf, glue them to a piece of wood and stand them up, hang them on the wall, or attach them to a background to make a cute plaque. One cute idea is to spell out “friends forever” or “best friends” and then place a cute mini frame with a picture of a friend (or a picture of your child with the friend) between the two words.

Foam Letters

You can find pre-cut foam letters or cut out your own letters, names, or words. Hang them from fishing line or “invisible” thread to make a unique mobile that spells out a name or an inspirational message.

Window Clings

You can buy sets or purchase the material and design your own window clings. Use them on windows or mirrors to create cute scenes or to spell out names or favorite words.

Removable Decals

As above, you can make your own designs or purchase kits and apply removable decals to kids’ walls to add some interest.

Add Some Texture

Make fun and funky pillows from plush or faux fur fabrics to help liven up children’s spaces. Kids can learn to sew, use washable fabric glue, or have an adult assist in using iron-seam tape. Make pillows in fun geometric shapes, or make pillows in the shape of your child’s initials.
