“The Times in Which We Live”

We are living in times of turmoil and strife. There seem to be new battles raging around us each day. The recent discovery of a new terrorist plot against Americans caused me to think back to the days closely following 9-11. A day that no one will ever forget. It also sent me to seek out the words, which President Hinckley spoke at the General Conference following the attacks. You can read those words in “The Times in Which We Live.” These words in particular stand out:

“Let us be prayerful. Let us pray for righteousness. Let us pray for the forces of good. Let us reach out to help men and women of goodwill, whatever their religious persuasion and wherever they live. Let us stand firm against evil, both at home and abroad. Let us live worthy of the blessings of heaven, reforming our lives where necessary and looking to Him, the Father of us all. He has said, ‘Be still, and know that I am God’ (Ps. 46:10).

“Are these perilous times? They are. But there is no need to fear. We can have peace in our hearts and peace in our homes. We can be an influence for good in this world, every one of us.”

In these times of uncertainty we can take comfort in the gospel and the promises of peace that we will have as we strive to do what is right. We can find peace as we teach our children the gospel, read the scriptures, and serve those around us. We can bless others as we pray for them and for peace in our world. If we are doing what is right the Lord will stand behind us and give us strength to meet the challenges ahead.
I hope that you will take the time to read these words of comfort that the prophet has provided for us during these times of unrest and uncertainty
