One of my favorite times when I was a child was going to the public library for story hour. In today’s busy society it can be difficult to get your kids t your libraries story hour. I know the story hour at the public library near my hour occurs around lunchtime that makes it a virtually impossible for any non- stay at home mom to make it.
Now that everything else seems to be headed the way of the Internet, why not making a public library online as well? The Internet Public Library is just that, a library on the Internet.
The library has sections like reference, the world, math and science and art and music, as well as a fun stuff section with game jokes and funnies for children to play and read.
My favorite part of this website is the “Story Hour” however, which has links to different featured “story time’ stories. On the page are a variety of different easy to read books that children can read online. Some of the books on the site are set up just like a book from the library would, with pictures to click through. Other books on the site have audio files associated with them as well, so your children can listen to the book being read aloud and read along.
Each section of the website links for the most part to other reference sites on the web for various topics, so it can hard to judge whether the links are going to be appropriate for a five year old or a fifteen year old. Older children may find the site a useful place to start when they begin researching papers for school or working on complicated school projects.
For older kids they may also be interested in the additional features the site offers such as a course on HTML and a section on the US Presidents.
