Tah-dah! The end….we’re finally here. Today we’ll finish up with photography terms from Q to Z. Obviously these are not ALL of the terms out there. That would take up far too much room! I have just picked out the more important terms.
Quartz Date-Digital clock that can print the date and/or time on the film or between frames.
RAW- This is a file format, it isn’t really an acronym for anything. It is basically unprocessed data, and are often known as digital negatives.
Resolution- The ability of the camera to detect and distinguish fine details.
Rule of Thirds- This is more of a guideline than a rule. It’s a guideline for composition that says that the dominant points of interest should be situated about 1/3 of the way into the image. For example, a horizon looks best 1/3 from the top or bottom of an image, not right in the middle. A tree should be about 1/3 from the side of the frame.
Sepia tone- brownish tint
Soft Focus- Image that is focused properly, but diffused to reduce contrast in details. This is the “romantic” effect, a filter or a fine net can achieve this effect.
Telephoto-A lens with a long focal length.
Tungsten- Incandescent lighting that uses a tungsten filament. These lamps produce a lot of heat. They can be used as photographic lighting, but aren’t too great for studio use. These are usually used for modeling light.
Viewfinder- The little window at the back of the camera that you look through to see what you are taking a picture of.
Zoom Lens-Lens with a variable focal length.
So that’s it. That’s your glossary. Please enjoy it. I hope this has been useful for you. Even I learned a thing or two while writing it! Here are the links to the prior blogs:
