At my nephew’s birthday party yesterday, we went to a great little place in Frisco called GhattiTown – it’s a lot like Chuckie Cheese – only not. They had a face painter there who provided some great entertainment for the children with elaborate face paints from cat faces to robots to butterflies and more. The face painter even had a picture of the multiple eyes seen on Captain Jack Sparrow in the recent Pirates of the Carribean sequel. It was creepy on him in the movie and even creepier on the child in the photograph.
Face painting is a lot of fun. We’ve even practice painting faces at home for birthday parties and Halloween. I don’t have that steady a hand so we lean more towards face tattoos – such as at my daughter’s fifth birthday party, we used little lightening tattoos on all the kid’s foreheads because it was a Harry Potter theme.
In the meanwhile, here are a few more face painting ideas to help you and your little one out if you need them.
- If you have to use a lot of color to make a base on the face, do what you do with your own cosmetics and use a little sponge to spread the color around. This prevents you from doing it too thick on the skin
- If you’re doing the face painting yourself, try to picture what it will look like when you are done or have a photograph in hand – kids are not patient and they want the end result quick
- There are face painting stencils out there, invest in a set – they make your face painting fast and easy and just about anyone can use them
- Temporary tattoos are great substitutes – as mentioned above, temporary tattoos give you a fast and good end result without a lot of talent being required
- Have your kiddo decide what they want to do long before you set up, or offer only one type especially at a birthday party – it will save you in time and headaches
- Have a mirror handy so they can either watch themselves or see themselves when they are done
- Fantasy ideas are among the easiest – from butterfly masks to cat faces – build up your repertoire slowly, your little ones will probably make more than willing canvases
What other ideas can you think of to offer someone who wants to practice face painting for a party?
