Fall is just right around the corner and soon the days will be cooling (please!) and the nights will be even cooler (yay!) and in most areas of the country, the leaves on the trees will begin to change color and the grass will begin yellow and brown (it’s already burnt here) and we’ll be getting ready for a host of Autumnal events including Halloween and Thanksgiving.
So in honor of the soon to be changing (can’t change soon enough) seasons, I wanted to share with you some wedding theme ideas. A little planning and creativity can go a long way towards making your wedding a truly festive and memorable event. Remember, when it comes to wedding planning that:
- This is your wedding, don’t let someone else pressure you into something you do not want to do or if they don’t like the idea that you and your prospective spouse are planning
- If you want a theme wedding, choose it before you even order a single thing from flowers to invitations
- Guests should always be invited to dress for the theme of the wedding if that is what you desire, but never require them to do so
So with those guidelines in mind here are a few fun theme ideas for your forthcoming nuptials:
- Renaissance or Medieval Wedding – It can be held outdoors in a garden setting or at a renaissance faire, most major areas have renaissance fairs within an hour or two drive. Guests can dress in period costumes as can the bride and groom. Your reception food can be a banquet feast of roasted meats, fresh fruit, breads and more to keep with the theme
- Victorian Wedding – Feathers, gazeboes, pastels and 19th century upper class motions should mark this type of wedding, the groom will appear in top hat and tails and the bride’s gown should be a ball gown effect with flower patterns weaved into the bodice work
- Country Wedding – A country wedding is a more homey feel to it, usually hosted at a ranch or small church with old wooden picnic tables being scattered for the barbecue and standard country fare reception – this type of wedding is usually more informal and about the close knits groups that comprise the families
- The Autumn Wedding – This one is a particular favorite of mine, held in the height of the fall season, a small church amidst trees that are changing their colors, shades of red, orange and yellow decorate the ceremony and reception, a harvest feast of turkey, pumpkin pie, and apple cider should be served
- The Halloween Wedding – This style is not for everyone, but you can do it up as a really intriguing event in late evening style, with guests as well as the bride and groom dressed in their favorite costumes – be sure to have plenty of bowls of candy around and ask the guests to trick or treat their way through the reception line
- The Christmas Wedding – Think evergreens and Christmas trees, lots of snow and twinkling lights – the wedding can be hosted in a Church or large convention hall – the time of the year is convenient because many locations will already be decorated – the bride may choose a thick hooded cloak rather than a veil and a faux fur muff for the hands – bridesmaids may be dressed in Santa type dresses or in a beautiful forest green – reception tables can be decorated with little guest presents so that everyone makes Santa’s list; flowers such as poinsettias should be in abundance
