LazyTown

“LazyTown” was created in Iceland by professional athlete Magnus Scheving. LazyTown seems to be in an unseen battle between healthy and unhealthy lifestyles. This show is all about teaching children how to eat healthy and live healthy.

Our main heroine is an eight-year-old girl named Stephanie who has pink hair. Sportacus is an adult who is a healthy superhero. Then, there is the evil genius Robbie Rotten whose goal is to turn LazyTown into a lazy town. As far as I know, these are the only humans in the show. The rest of the characters are puppets or computer generated.

From the few times I have watched this show, it seems that it starts off with Stephanie trying to convince the other children of LazyTown to eat healthy and exercise. When someone wants to have candy as a snack, she gives the an alternative. For example, a commercial can be seen on NOGGIN where Stephanie shows an orange and says that it is packed full of energy to keep you going all day. Such is the norm on the show. Then, there is Robbie Rotten who is always trying to trick the citizens of LazyTown into eating junk food and being lazy. That’s usually when Sportacus comes in and saves the day. He is the hero because he eats healthy and exercises. He and Stephanie do their best to keep LazyTown healthy.

The show has its good and bad points. The good thing about this show is that it encourages kids to eat healthy. Stephanie is always offering healthy alternatives in place of junk food snacks. It also encourages kids to get up and move. There is always a song, sung by Stephanie, that is all about living healthy. For some reason, I just can not get into this show. I don’t know if it’s Stephanie’s pink hair or if it’s the fact that Robbie Rotten looks like he is almost a puppet (his hair looks like plastic). I don’t think it gets kids’ attention until there is music and it is boring to me. My daughter doesn’t particularly care for it, whereas my three-year-old nephew does. You and your child can decide for yourselves.
