Girls Night Out : Staying Connected With Your Friends

Having a few close girlfriends can mean the difference between sanity and a straight-jacket for many moms. Sometimes though when we have kids, especially when they are young, we drift away from even our closest friend. This is even more true when you are the sole mid-life mom in your circle. When your friends have kids in college and yours is in diapers, well sometimes you simply can’t connect as often as you might like to. But there is a way to make sure you don’t lose these valuable friendships and that’s by scheduling a girls night. Think of it as a grown up pajama party. Of course, you don’t have to stay inside, you can also go out to movies, out to eat or even to a bar or club, but staying in can be much more fun. Here’s one way to plan your girls night.

Acuvue (yes, the vision care people), offers these tips on planning a girls night with a chick flick theme.

1. First, pick out the movie. You can select tearjerkers, dramas, comedies, depending on your circle of friends and their tastes. You can go here for a list of some great chick flicks as ranked by O, the Oprah Magzine.

2. Next, send out invitations and have the invitations match the theme of the movie.

3. In keeping with the theme of the movie, select food also inspired by the movie but make sure you keep it simple. You can also make it potluck and have guest bring dishes, but remember to keep it in tune with the theme.

4. Finally, create a goody bag. What a neat idea! In the same way kids take home a gift bag after a birthday party, adults get to take home a small bag prepared by the hostess.

You’ll want to take turns hosting the party and you’ll want to make sure you are kid-free when it’s your time. But as you can see with a small amount of planning you can successful host a girls night out and manage to stay connected to your circle of friends.
