Kids grow up way too fast. You can keep a record of just how fast if you and your children make one of these growth charts. There’s nothing difficult about these projects. In fact, they take more time than craft-making ability. Anybody can make one, so come on, let’s get started.
The first design starts with a flat piece of wood trim found in any home improvement store. A six foot piece of trim should work, but if you have really tall people in your family, you might want to go six and a half. You can also pick up a piece of trim about four feet long and simply hang it two feet above the floor.
The trim can be as wide or narrow as you like, as long as there is plenty of room to mark inches and feet and room to write down your child’s name and the date when you measure him or her.
Stain or paint the trim as desired (you may need to prime first, so ask when you purchase the trim). When dry, begin marking off inches and feet. It will be easier if you use a yardstick instead of a tape measure. Mark with pencil and go over it later with indelible ink or paint pens.
Decorate as desired, making special images near each foot measurement. Use colors and images that coordinate with the room the growth chart will be hung in. An adult can attach the growth chart to the wall with a few finish nails and a light hammer.
The next idea is super simple. All you need to do is hot glue (or nail) brightly colored rulers end to end on the wall. Add decals or other embellishments to mark off each foot. Add a cute poster at the top that bears your children’s names or photos. Attach a narrow strip of poster board the same length as the growth chart directly beside it for marking off each child’s height on particular dates.
