Annie: It’s a Hard Knock Life

“The sun will come out tomorrow!”

Annie has always been one of my all time favorite movies. It is one of the movies that I grew up watching that still translates well to today’s audience. Annie is often portrayed in traveling musicals and by high school theaters, so if you’re an Annie fan you have several opportunities to get a fix when you need one.

One such fix is the original Annie on DVD. The DVD features the original movie, along with a sing along with Annie feature, Act along with Annie feature, and a Annie trivia game.

If it’s been a while since you’ve seen the movie, or you’ve never seen the movie. Annie is about an orphaned girl who lives in an orphanage with other abandoned girls like herself. The head of the orphanage Miss Hannigan treats the girls like they are unwanted, and dreams of one day meeting a man who will pull her out of the orphanage into riches.

Mr. Warbucks is a rich man in town who wants to “borrow” an orphan for a brief period of time for a publicity stunt. He wants boy but ends up with Annie. Throughout her stay Warbucks starts to fall in love with Annie ultimately asking her if he can adopt her and allow her to live permanently with him. She declines thinking her real parents will come for her one day.

When Warbucks starts a campaign to find Annie’s parents tons of people come forth claiming to be the child’s parents in order to gain some of Warbuck’s wealth. One of those people is Miss Hannigan’s money hungry brother who has the advantage of knowing everything about Annie from his sister.

In the end of the movie Daddy Warbucks gets Annie back and the two live happily ever after as a family. This is a great feel good movie, and one that has a fabulous soundtrack that I continue to sing on a somewhat daily basis.

Annie is available on VHS and DVD where ever movies are sold.
