7 years ago today, my husband and I got married in Orlando, Florida. I was at the Magic Kingdom getting my bridal photographs taken in front of Cinderella’s Castle, on her Carousel and in front of Tomorrowland. A few hours later, I was standing outside the Boardwalk resort enjoying the morning sunshine while my bridesmaids were getting their hair and make up done.
We had our pictures taken together in the lobby of this beautiful hotel. My bridesmaids, maid of honor and my mother all then left in a limousine to drive over to the Yacht Club and get ready for the actual ceremony in the Rose Garden. I spent the next hour, by myself, standing there in the lobby area and smiling at all the kids who were delighted to see a bride there. I even got my picture taken with a couple of young girls who were all dressed up in Princess costumes.
Carriage Ride
When the carriage arrived, I walked down a long sidewalk, lined by people who were gathering to watch. I remember the first set of giggles starting to hit. I felt so completely absurd. I’ve never been one to put on such a show, but that’s what it all felt like. I was the show – and I have to admit – the men with their white powdered wigs and the beautiful white horses were really a tremendous sight.
They helped me up into the carriage and I started laughing at all the kids who were waving at me now. I was getting my picture taken by strangers and now I have to wonder if somewhere in some family album, is there a picture of me under their trip to Disney World section. The ride around the Boardwalk in the carriage was actually a lot of fun and I couldn’t stop laughing.
I’ve told the story of our wedding before and every year on our anniversary – I remember it and I can’t help but laugh again. 7 Years, we’ve been married. Nearly 11 years, we’ve been together. We have a beautiful little girl and we’ve weathered a lot of tough problems and while our relationship today is very different from what it was 11 years ago – I’m still very glad that I said yes to the proposal and laughed my way through my I Do’s.
Happy Anniversary
This weekend we received a happy anniversary card from a friend of ours and it said, I hope you’re both still laughing – what better wish can you offer to a couple who are celebrating their anniversary. We’re still laughing – we’re still looking for ways to tickle each other and we’re learning a lot about being adults together – though occasionally we have our petulant moments.
Today is my wedding anniversary and I’m still saying I do and I will. I can’t ask for a lot more than that.
