While nature does a beautiful job of decorating for fall with changing leaves in gorgeous colors, there are a few natural touches you can add to really dress your home up for autumn.
Porches and Stairs
Add large pumpkins and other gourds or squashes and create an arrangement in the corner of your porch. For smaller porches, planters in fall colors may be more convenient. Surround the planter with pumpkins or try a basket filled with different sized pumpkins and gourds with some raffia as filler.
For the stairs (if your stairway is wide enough to avoid trips and falls) place a large cornucopia basket to the side of the top stair and fill it with pumpkins, squashes, or other vegetables. You can use real of artificial. Make the basket appear to be overflowing down the stairs by placing a few of the items on the second and third stairs, well to the side. Add filler between pieces if desired. If you can’t find a cornucopia basket, turn any basket on its side to create a similar effect.
You can also simply place a pumpkin on each stair or every other stair going down, or place one on every other stair then alternate sides. First stair, left side, second stair, right side, etc.
Fence Posts and Driveway
If you have flat topped fence posts, place tiny pumpkins or gourds on top of them alternating every other one with a different piece. One pumpkin, one gourd, one squash, etc. If your fence posts don’t have flat tops, hang tiny pumpkins or dried corn from every other one using raffia or twine.
Place extra large pumpkins or arrangements at each side near the end of your driveway.
Exterior Walls and Doors
This is the perfect time of year to use natural wreaths. Purchase one or make your own and hang it on a wide wall, window, or door. Use twigs, grasses, dried flowers, or dried corn. Try making one large wreath for the door and smaller ones for lower floor windows.
