There are many factors that are at work when it comes to Breast Cancer survival. Studies and research indicate that a healthy lifestyle factors into breast cancer survival rates. Eating well and exercising regularly provide many different health benefits including the possibility of protection against the reoccurrence of cancer after treatment.
Researchers have been studying the breast cancer survival rate among 1,200 women who were diagnosed with breast cancer between the years of 1990 and 1992. These women were an average of 42 when they were diagnosed. Those with higher levels of activity in the years leading up to their diagnosis were 30 percent more likely to survive. Women who exercised regularly had a 35 percent lower risk of developing breast carcinoma.
In the research study that was performed, the women were all diagnosed in the early stages of breast cancer where it was still localized to the breast and hadn’t spread to other areas. Most of these women were still alive 8 to 10 years after their diagnosis. There were also indications that women who were overweight or obese, but also very physically active were 30% more likely to survive than their inactive peers.
Ultimately, the studies found that because regular exercise and healthy nutrition are good for the body, that there were multiple benefits to individuals from increasing longevity and quality of life, but also increasing their chances of recovering and surviving from debilitating conditions such as cancer and the cancer treatments.
