Do you know how old your body is? Sometimes, our body is older than we are and that is not what most of us dream about. Whether we are in our 30s, our 40s or 50s, we want our bodies to be younger, fitter and trimmer. We want to be in good shape and we want to feel good. Your body age is determined by a test of strength, cardiovascular condition, body fat percentage and flexibility.
Our physical age is determined by the number of years that have passed since our birth dates. But our body’s age is determined by how well we take care of it. Maintenance is very important for any system whether it is mechanical or biological. For example, if you buy a brand new car, but don’t ever take it in for an oil change, refill the water or tune up the engine, it likely won’t last five years without a mechanical breakdown.
Your body is absolutely no different.
If you don’t take care of it and provide regular maintenance, your body doesn’t come with a warranty and repairs can be far more difficult to effect on your body than they are on a vehicle or piece of electronic equipment. Muscle atrophy, skin stretches and your body ages – but if you take care of it, work out regularly and provide regular maintenance through physical check ups, healthy nutrition and more – you can actually reduce your body age – so a 40 year old person can actually have a body age of 30 or younger.
Our physicians have long used the threat of blood pressure or high cholesterol to get people to exercise more regularly and get in shape. But you don’t have to wait until your health is in danger. In fact, if you like to look and feel good – exercise now. When you exercise regularly, you are regularly flushing toxins out of your body. Your hair and skin will have a healthier glow. Your body will have a healthier feel. Your muscles will be tauter and more toned.
There is no such thing as turning back time. You can’t go back in time and you can’t go back to being 25 again – but you can feel better and your body can feel younger – and why not? There is that old saying – you’re only as old as you feel. So how old do you feel? How old is your body? How old would you like it to be?
