Out of the Box Halloween Costumes

Trash to treasure is a motto around here. Between my five children and my idea binder we were able to come up with several really cute ideas for costumes using up some boxes around the house. Here are some of our favorites.

Yu-Gi-Oh or Pokemon Card

You can take a box, cut arm holes out of it. You can cut a hole for the head, but it works better if you don’t. Paint or use markers to decorate the box to look like a collectible card. Perhaps try to duplicate your child’s favorite card. You can use clip art or use your scanner to scan a card and print it out larger, however it cannot be that big to cover the entire box. Be creative and have fun.

A Race Car Driver

Paint the box completely red. Paint some paper plates black and attach them to the box. You can even paint the centers silver. Add some stripes and customize the “car” to suit your little race car drivers taste.

A Refrigerator, Washing Machine or other Appliance

Paint your box white. Add a real handle or paint on on for a refrigerator. Don’t forget to paint a stripe down the center to separate the refrigerator and freezer, or do one across the top in the old style freezer/refrigerator way. Washing machine, cut a hole in the top of the box and allow the childs head to poke through. Cover them with some clothing all over their head, barely blow up a few white balloons and attach around the top rim. Those are your bubbles.

A Computer

Paint the box tan, black or grey. Paint on a screen or for a more creative way, use your printer to print your screen and glue in place. Find an old keyboard or use a long flat box and draw on a keyboard and attach with heavy duty glue to the box.

A Rubiks Cube Puzzle

Paint is the easiest way to do this, however you could also cut up construction paper. You need several pieces of five different colors and a large cardboard box. Glue the paper or paint the individual squares to look like a rubiks cube. Be sure and do at least five sides. The bottom isn’t important. Have the child wear black. Sweat suits are good or you could use a black turtleneck or long sleeve shirt and a pair of black pants. I think that is such a cute creative idea!
