Continuing our creative discussion of wall art for the frugal minded, I have several more great ideas. Creating wall art is easy and saves a lot of money off store purchased items. Frame the item yourself and you’ve saved even more. Here are a few more great ideas to get you working on personalizing your home even further.
Collage Art
Cut photos and patterns out of papers, calendars and greeting cards collaging them together in a slightly shabby chic way. Cut the entire print to the size of the frame you want, and you have a piece of wall art that cost only the price you paid for the frame. Taking old ads out of old magazines can produce an old fashioned print collage. You can do this with a certain color, a certain topic, you can piece together an entire photo.
Puzzle Art
Puzzles are great fun. But they can also be used as wall art. Around here there are several of us that truly enjoy piece puzzles together. But when we are finished, we don’t necessarily break the puzzle apart to do it again. Instead we use a special puzzle glue to hold it together and find a frame to frame it. Not only did we have fun putting the puzzle together, but we are able to enjoy it on the wall. Just ask my son how much he loves the dragon art on his walls. All were puzzles that were glued and framed.
Photographs
Photographs on the wall give your home a more personal feel. Using different frames in different shapes and sizes, you can create a big cluster of wall art. You can place photographs from over a period of time. Or you can take very large frames and create your own collage mats for multiple photographs. Just purchase an inexpensive piece of poster board, cut it to size using a craft knife and cut out windows where you want the photographs to be placed.
Other items
Don’t forget that other items can be manipulated or altered to become wall art as well. Plates, wooden plaques, coasters, anything that can have framing hardware attached to the back to hang can be turned into a masterpiece either on it’s own, or with some paint, sanding or creativity on your part!
Be creative and have fun! Go slowly and don’t try to rush your wall art. It can take years to accumulate what you will display, especially if you are a frugal person.
