Diary Of An Overweight Mom: Don’t MESS With My Cheez-Its

I feel very strongly about my Cheez-Its—so strongly in fact, that I try not to buy them for my kids, because I know I’ll eat the whole box within two days. But yesterday at the store, I relented. I’d been wanting them, and even though we have a gigantic container of Goldfish crackers in the house, they’re just not the same. I think most people prefer one or the other.

So today I went to pour the Cheeze-Its into bowls for my kids. I was also looking forward to having some for myself. After all, my stomach has been very queasy for a few days and not much is sounding good. Well, I opened the box and what did I find? Shrek shaped Cheeze-Its. My son had cleverly picked the package of “special” crackers instead of putting the trusty original ones into the shopping cart. And with my 2 ½ year old wreaking havoc, I didn’t notice.

Let me tell you something about crackers. When the original is good, the spinoffs are not. Same goes for macaroni and cheese. Have you ever tried the blue box with the Sponge Bob Squarepants macaroni? There’s like ¼ of the pasta in the box…it’s not the same.

So my message today is simply, don’t mess with the original! Shrek Cheeze-Its may be fine for some, but for me they’re just not toasty. They’re just not the same.

There’s my two cents. But hey, one good thing came out of it—I won’t be eating the crackers. I won’t be packing on two pounds of Cheeze-Its weight in the next two days, and I won’t suffer from eating guilt. So maybe those Shrek designs weren’t such a bad thing after all….

How about you—how are your weight loss efforts going? And which foods do you just “have” to keep in the fridge or the cabinet? If you’re trying to lose weight, my advice is, don’t give up those special foods. Just cut back on your portions. There are enough other things you can give up and still lose weight.
