I am always looking for something that’s educational but is not the equivalent of getting socks and underwear to my kids. This is no small feat, but it can be done. Consider putting the following in the stockings or under the trees of the homeschoolers you love!
1. Educational Games
Everyone loves a good board game. So why not pick up a gift certificate for an online store like Fun Again.com? Too many choices? I am personally partial to plunder chess. Leap Frog has also come out with a series of board games that help teach early learning skills.
2. Books
Perhaps maybe your homeschoolers would like some more books? Check out Backyard Ballistics for the men in your life who. . .like to blow things up!
3. Tickets
Another great gift for homeschoolers is not a “something” but a “something special to do.” Consider getting the homeschoolers in your life tickets to a play or musical, a special exhibit at a museum or giving money to be used towards a special class.
4. Museum Memberships
Do you live near a museum? Why not get your favorite homeschoolers a museum membership? Throughout the year, we actually buy memberships to several area museums including the Hall of Science, the Bronx Zoo, and the NY Botanical Gardens. Again, it’s another gift that keeps on giving.
5. Magazine Subscriptions
Give the gift that keeps on giving every month–a magazine subscription. A few of our favorites are: National Geographic Kids, Highlights, Nick Jr., FamilyFun, and Ranger Rick. I should note that neither Nick Jr. or Family Fun are exclusively kids magazines. However, Nick Jr. is packed with family activities and crafts and comes with “Noodle Magazine” which your little Nick Jr. fans will love. Family Fun is just jam packed full of crafts, ideas, cooking lessons, holiday tips etc. to make it a good educational value.
5. Gift Certificates
Who doesn’t appreciate a spending spree with gift money? Here are just a few stores and businesses where a few extra dollars to spend would be most appreciated:
