More Thanksgiving Table Decorations

Do you have a kids’ table during the holidays? I asked this question in Home, in Holidays: The Kids’ Table. Some families do, some don’t. For kids who do like having their own special table, these ideas will help them make decorate it in a fun and festive way. If your children prefer the grown up table, they still might want to make these items to help decorate it or to make special place settings for themselves and other children.

Holiday Napkins

You can find all kinds of great themed paper napkins at any store. These are great for adding to the festive look (and they also come in handy for messy fingers!). But, you can also make nice cloth napkins to dress up each place setting. Make them all match or make each one different and special. You can pick up fabric or linen napkins to decorate, or make them yourself. Cut 12” x 12” squares from fabric and hem the edges with fabric glue (or mom can stitch them or use iron-on fusible seam tape or show you how to do it).

You can then stencil on a holiday message or design. Add trim if you like.

Holiday Napkin Rings

We did other napkin rings (and placemats) in Holiday Crafts: Decorative Items for the Table, but you can make some really simple ones using stuff you probably already have. Just ask a grown up to help you cut a paper towel roll into appropriately sized rings. About 1-2” tall is a good size. You can cover them with paper, glue on fabric, paint them, add trim, glue on beads, or design them any way you like. Then, just roll up napkins or fold them like a fan and slip them through the rings. They will even work for large paper napkins, or you can roll silverware in a napkin and slide on a napkin ring
