How to Get Involved for Veteran’s Day

Do you know what Veterans Day is? Do you know why it’s important? It is the day where we show appreciation, or give thanks, to all the brave people that fought in wars to help keep our country safe. These people are called Veterans.

While today is the official date of Veteran’s Day, many people will celebrate in on Monday, November 13, because they have the day off from school or work. So, what can you do to get actively involved in honoring our American heroes?

Many communities have a Veterans Day parade. Ask a grown up to call your local Chamber of Commerce to find out if there is a parade or other special activities and to find out when and where these things will take place.

You might also want to ask a grown up to see if there is a VA (Veterans Administration) Medical Center somewhere near your home. If there is, you can send a card, drop off some cards, or visit Veterans who have served our country.

You might also want to check with a VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) organization in your area, because they might have special activities planned. You can also make pictures, posters, or cards to share with people that belong to the VFW, since the organization is made up of Veterans and their family members. They would love to hear from you and would certainly enjoy your cards, letters, and pictures. It makes Veterans feel good to know that people care about them and appreciate how bravely they defended our country.

If you want to show your spirit at home, you can put up your flag. You might also want to try some of the craft ideas that were listed here before:
