Author Interview — Jewel Adams

jaOur guest author for today is Jewel Adams, a romance writer who is taking the LDS market by storm, as well as being a wonderful lady. Jewel, thank you for joining us today. Would you please tell our readers a little bit about yourself and where you’re from?

I’m originally from Asheville, North Carolina. I moved to Utah in 1989. I met my husband while he was serving a mission for the LDS church there. He brought me here and married me, and Utah became home. My husband and I have eight children who definitely keep us busy.

I understand that you homeschool your large family. Is that correct?

Yes. I started homeschooling them from the very beginning. It’s hard work sometimes, but it’s fun.

You do that, and write? Where do you find time to fit the writing in?

Most of the time I write at noon and late at night. I’m such a night owl because that’s when my mind is the most active and I can’t shut it off until I get all my thoughts down. And yes, I am one of those people who sleeps with a pad of paper and a pen by the bed.

How many books have you written, and what are they called?

I have two published books: “Elise’s Heart,” a young adult fictional romance, and “Mercedes’ Mountain,” an adult fictional romance. My newest book, “Against the Odds,” will be released nationally in mid-February. I have also written several e-books, which are available on my website.

You mentioned to me that all of your books feature interracial marriages/relationships. Can you tell me a little more about that?

I write about what I know. I’m a black woman married to a white man, and because there aren’t many books out there about people couples in interracial marriages and relationships, I felt prompted to steer my writing in that direction. My husband has been a big support to me and we decided that avenue was a good thing for me.

What are you working on now, and what can we plan to see from you in the future?

Well, right now I’m taking a little break. This newest book has taken a lot out of me. I do have
another book in the works that will also be for the national market, but it will be a little while before it’s done. My tortured mind needs a break. (smiles)

Thank you for this interview, Jewel, and thank you for writing your thought-provoking books. They fill a hole we’ve had in fiction. We’ll look forward to seeing your new release and wish you the best of luck in all you do.
