The wait is finally over. It’s official: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are now legally husband and wife (though, they may have been for a while now—more on that later). According to their spokesperson, the couple exchanged vows Saturday in front of more than 150 guests at the Odescalchi Castle in Lake Bracciano, Italy.
Details on the ceremony are slowly being leaked to the media. Here’s what has been released so far: Holmes was walked down the aisle by her dad, Martin. She wore “an off-the-shoulder Armani gown with a train in ivory silk cadis adorned in Valenciennes lace and Swarovski beaded crystal embroidery.” She also wore an ivory tulle floor-length veil and ivory silk shoes… and she carried a bouquet of calla lilies.
As Holmes made her way up the aisle to join her beloved she passed a slew of celebrity guests, including Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, former Cruise nemesis Brooke Shields and her husband Chris Henchy, Victoria Beckham, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, and Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy. (Sorry Oprah.)
According to TomKat’s rep, the sunset ceremony was performed by a Scientology minister and witnessed by their wedding party, which included Cruise’s children, Isabella and Connor. The best man was Cruise’s best friend, David Miscavige – the head of the Church of Scientology – and Katie’s sister Nancy Blaylock served as the matron of honor.
In true celebrity fashion, Holmes reportedly slipped out of her wedding dress and into an Armani champagne evening gown for the reception. After cocktails, guests were served Italian hors d’oeuvres, followed by a multi-course meal. And for dessert guests dined on a five-tiered white chocolate wedding cake decorated with marzipan roses, and studded with white chocolate chips. (No word on whether the newlyweds partook in any smash-the-wedding-cake-in-your-face fun.) One media outlet is reporting that world-renown Italian singer Andrea Bocelli provided the evening’s entertainment. However, two nights ago I saw an interview the singer did with TV’s “Access Hollywood” in which he denied that he would performing at the Tom/Kat nuptials—oh, what to believe?
In my opinion, the most interesting tidbit of information revealed today was the fact that, according to the couple’s spokesperson, Cruise and Holmes were officially married in Los Angeles a week prior to their departure for Italy. So tonight’s entire Italian shindig was a not a legally binding affair—just a reason to party! I can’t wait to see the pictures. I heard that “an official wedding photo” would be released to the media by midnight. We’ll see.
