Fit Family – Miami Moms Take Action

I love Moms – have I mentioned that? When faced with a need, Maria Sanz, a mother of four, decided to create the fitness magazine she wanted for her kids. Their fitness magazine is called Be Fit Kids and it offers a bimonthly issue with articles of interest for children ages 8 to 14. Sanz’s goal was a magazine that encouraged kids and their parents to live healthy, smart lives.

Hero Worship

The magazine offers to supplement the hero worship that some kids feel with interviews and features on high profile athletes and interviews with some that are done by kids. Stars such as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Serena Williams, Lance Armstrong and soccer star Mia Hamm have all graced the cover of Be Fit Kids.

The focus of the magazine remains firmly on kids. The cover will feature an athlete to get the kids to flip it open and to engage their interests. But it won’t just focus on organized sports and you’re just as likely to find profiles of student athletes as well. They also offer different aspects of sports, hopefully demonstrating that it’s more important to make the effort and to be involved than it is to be the best in the game.

More than the Cover

The issue I saw included articles on flag football and how kids can participate in cross-country running. I also saw a step-by-step photo spread on morning exercises that kids can do. There was info on how to eat a healthy lunch – whether carrying a lunch to school or eating in the school lunch line and more on how to study and snack right.

To sum it up – it’s the magazine’s motto that got my interest – Fighting Childhood Obesity One Kid at a Time. I think that really does sum it up – so if you get a chance to pick up a copy of Be Fit Kids, you and your kids will enjoy it.
