Here’s a cute project that I think you’ll like. It’s easy and it won’t cost a lot, but you’ll have a dozen cute new ornaments to display or to give as gifts.
What you will need:
- Package of plastic or wooden shower curtain rings
- Photos or small prints of photos
- Glue
- Scissors
- Ribbon
- Beads, sequins, or glitter
- Lace or trim (optional)
What you will need to do:
Cut a length of ribbon about 10-12” long. Slide it through the shower curtain ring, pull the ends up and tie a bow. You’ll use this to hang up your ornament. You might want to tape the ribbon in place to keep it out of your way during the next steps. Make sure the tape is on the outside of the ring, and don’t forget to remove the tape completely when finished.
Trace the outside edge of a ring onto a favorite photo or a print. Cut out the image, staying just inside the line.
Run a light bead of glue along the edge of the ring and attach the photo, so it looks like it’s sitting inside a picture frame.
Add more glue just outside the edge of the photo and add trim or lace from the back (optional), so it peeks out from behind the ring.
When dry, add glitter or other sparkles around the shower curtain ring to embellish it (you should be able to find plastic shower curtain rings in Christmas colors, or silver or gold).
Variations:
You can simply attach ornament hooks to the top of the rings to hang these ornaments on your Christmas tree if you prefer not to use ribbon.
You can use images cut from old Christmas cards or wrapping paper instead of photos.
You can keep a few and pass the rest out individually to family and friends, or make a whole set for a grandparent.
Aside from hanging them on the tree, they also make a cute window treatment in place of a regular valance. Just cut the ribbon at different lengths and stagger them when you hang them up, some high, some low.
