In 1985, AT&T created a video where they talked about what the world would be like twenty years down the road. In the video they discussed things like WiFi, video conferencing, and downloading movies. While they didn’t personally create any of this technology, it all exists in today’s world, and is for the most part taken for granter by today’s citizens.
I actually read an article out this video on another website this week, and was immediately reminded of The Jetsons. I absolutely loved watching that cartoon growing up. If I recall right, the cartoon was supposed to take place in the early 21st century. We haven’t quite gotten to the Jetson’s level of flying cars and instant food, but we’ve come pretty far in the past few decades where technology is concerned.
So what is one technological advance that has been made in the past few decades that you couldn’t live without?
For me it’s the internet. I can remember when looking a phone number meant flipping through a huge phonebook, and shopping always required going to the store, most of us can recall those times. The internet has dramatically changed how I live. I make more informed purchases, and I feel like I know much more about the world around me through using the internet.
Along the same token: What is one technological event you predict will occur in the next twenty years?
I’m going to guess, faster transportation. It’s a vague answer, which i9s cheating to some extent I guess, but I’m going to stand by it. In my mind I feel like flying cars is the most logical choice, it’s also the most hazardous. I can’t see how they would work, in a traffic sense. I could also see sidewalks being replaced with those fast walkways you see in airports occasionally.
