Freedom in Christ

Turning your life over to Christ means coming to the realization that you can’t save yourself; you need a Savior. It also means trusting God knows what’s best for your life and believing He’ll guide you in righteousness. One reason I think many are reluctant to abandon their old sinful lives is because the unknown can be scary. Putting our trust in God is an act of faith.

I’m not sure why so many would rather hold on to their sinful nature. I understand sin feels good for a time, but I’ve just assumed more people are capable of looking past the moment and consider eternity—the final consequences for their sins. Perhaps many people believe that becoming a Christian means you no longer can enjoy the things you used to. Maybe some people are afraid of becoming what their own prejudicial image of Christianity is.

When I turned my life over to Christ, I didn’t give up fun; I gave up sins that may have felt good for a short time but would have destroyed me. I realized giving up my old life did not mean giving up my freedoms but giving up bondage. It meant finding freedom to truly life a better life that was going to bring real happiness and joy—not something counterfeit! No longer did I have to carry shame or anxiety. Christ truly wanted to set me free from that through following Him.

None of us are without sin. The difference between a Christian and one who is not is the Christian has accepted the gift of salvation that Jesus Christ paid for on the cross. It means their name is written in the Book of Life and their sins are covered by Jesus. Those who have chosen to reject Christ have rejected His gift of salvation and their sins are not covered. Jesus says in John 14:6:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
