Book List for Military Wives During the Holidays

Planning on getting a military book for a female that you may know? Here is our top 5 picks and a short review of each one. Books not only making great Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers but they are perfect to just give someone you know just getting in.

Chicken Soup for the Military Wife’s Soul: Stories to Touch the Heart and Rekindle the Spirit (Chicken Soup for the Soul) by Jack Canfield

Ever read a Chicken Soup book? If you have, you’ll know that they are compiled full of short stories, in this case they are short stories written by military wives. Some chapters in the book that I loved were: “Honey, We’ve Got Orders and Raising Military Brats.” A few sad chapters that will need a tissue for are: “I Miss You So and An Officer at the Door. This would make a great gift idea for someone knew to the service, whether they are married or just about to get married.

Married to the Military: A Survival Guide for Military Wives, Girlfriends, and Women in Uniform by Meredith Leyva

The cover alone is something I really enjoyed about this book, instead of your typical green cammie color you get the pink. This little book will come in handy whether you are a girlfriend of a marine or a wife. You know those little abbreviations and weird words they use from time to time? Well, now you can learn what they are and surprise them when you respond back without asking them what they mean.

Today’s Military Wife: Meeting the Challenges of Service Life (Today’s Military Wife) by Lydia Sloan Cline

This book is more of a military wives guide to living in the military, it’ll teach her how to prepare for luncheon’s and the etiquette she should portray. It teaches history for all that want to learn more about being a military spouse. Got a question about living on base housing vs. living off base, this book will be able to help you out. No military wife should be without a copy in their stocking.

E-Mail to the Front: One Wife’s Correspondence with Her Husband Overseas by Alesia Holliday

This is a book that describes all types of things that go on in the military lifestyle and it is set up with emails between both spouses, as well as little stories in between. The stories that so many women in the military can relate to and think, “Thank goodness I’m not the only one that felt that way or did that.” If you know someone that feels she’s doing something alone, this is the book for her. In this book you will find out so much information about the military life and the structure behind it, you’ll be glad you got it.

GOING OVERBOARD: The Misadventures of a Military Wife by Sarah Smiley

This book is all about the adventures of a military spouse and how she experiences deployments. A very hilarious view from a military spouse’s perspective, but if you are looking for a way to cope with deployment, it isn’t this book. Sarah has always been known for her witty way of looking at military life and she’ll definitely keep you laughing throughout this book. Perfect for someone that seems depressed over her husband being deployed.

As you can see these books are great for either yourself or someone you know, a wife, daughter or girlfriend of someone in the military. These not only make great gift ideas, but stocking stuffers as well. If you want to get really crafty you can make an entire gift basket, using all the books, some chocolate, a teddy bear (for those deployments) and just about anything else you can think of. Either way, these books will definitely come in handy and won’t be used as a door stopper.
