Where Are They Now—Jerry Seinfeld

Jerry Seinfeld used to be a regular member of my household—-in my pre-mom days. Like millions of others, I too was a rabid “Seinfeld” fan, and even when the NBC hit comedy ended in 1998 I remained loyal by watching the show in syndication. Since then I got married, gave birth and life changed—my “Seinfeld” days are now officially over.

Coincidentally, in the days since his award-winning sitcom went off the air Seinfeld too has gone from top paying actor to husband and dad. The comedian still does standup, but spends most of his time as husband to wife Jessica and dad to his three children under age 6.

In fact, Seinfeld recently told a Newsweek reporter that his home life provides him with tons of new material.

“There’s no way to even describe the gold mine in the comedic arts that family life is,” he said. “I can’t believe I missed it for so long. If my life was total misery – which it’s not, it’s heaven, I love my wife, I’m having a great time – but if it was total misery, it would still be worth it for the jokes.”

I miss laughing at Seinfeld’s material, which is why I was pleasantly surprised to hear that he is undertaking a new project that I can (gasp) take my child to see. Jerry Seinfeld the cartoon! Well, kind of. Seinfeld is set to star in a DreamWorks animated film called “Bee Movie,” due out in November 2007. In it, he gives voice to a bee who leaves the hive and discovers that humans have been stealing the insects’ honey. The movie co-stars Renee Zellweger, who is the voice of Vanessa, a New York City florist. Did I mention he is also writing and producing the movie? I can’t wait. Hope I can get my 2-year-old to sit through it.
