Children and adults love to read, especially when it comes to folktales and fairytales. For instance, Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella, and Red Riding Hood are just some of our favorites. Another great category for children’s books is those that focus on Irish folklore. Although there are many books that you might consider buying, I wanted to provide you with some of my favorite choices.
First, a book called, “Tales from Old Ireland” is a wonderful book that is enhanced with beautiful artwork. Inside this book are actually seven stories, each with a wonderful message to the child. For instance, The Children of Lir, which is a famous Irish folktale, is a part of this book, among many others. Your child will also have the chance to read The Twelve Wild Geese, and Fair, Brown, and Trembling.
Favorite Fairytales Told in Ireland is also an excellent investment for your child’s book collection. For this book, which was originally published in 1961, you will find five stories from some of Ireland’s most beloved storytellers. For instance, The Widow’s Laze Daughter and The Bee, The Harp, and the Mouse are told in this book, which is designed for children between the ages of 6 and 12.
One that I personally love is called A Pot O’ Gold. Loaded with wonderful and charming Irish stories, the book also features beautiful watercolors and illustrations. What makes this particular book somewhat, unique is that it is broken down into specific categories. With in the covers, you will find sections on The Food, The Music, The Sea, The Scholars, and The Pride, each incredibly unique.
Other Irish folktale and fairytale books to consider adding to your home include The Prince of Ireland and the Three Magic Stallions, Tales for the Telling: Irish Folk and Fairy Stories, A Treasury of Irish Stories, and The St. Patrick’s Day Shillelagh. Remember you do not have to be Irish to enjoy these beautiful children’s books and chances are, once you have read them, your children will want to hear the great stories time and time again.
