I never pass up an opportunity to get a magazine or book for free or for a few pennies. So when I walked into the library yesterday and saw this big old table with a big old sign, Magazines – 10 cents, I almost tripped over my feet getting to the table. I walked away with 5 bucks worth of magazines, some fairly new, including some Highlights for Kids, Ranger Rick, National Geographic Kids, and several others. I was fortunate to find about a dozen issues of babytalk which is good for you, dear readers, cause I get to share some of the neat tips I found in them. In each issue you are sure to find good tips on every page. I remember reading babytalk religiously when Tyler was a baby (I was getting it free at the time). I also remember using a lot of the advice I read about. Here’s three good tips I found in the April 2005 issue.
(1) Celebrating your child’s first birthday? Instead of throwing a party (since the kid really won’t know what’s going on anyway), take the money you would have spent on a party and get a room for your family in a nice hotel with a pool for one night. You won’t have to worry about cooking or cleaning. You can simply have a little fun!
(2) Looking for an easier way to take your baby’s temperature using a rectal thermometer? Instead of placing your baby on his stomach, many moms swear by this much easier method. First, lubricate the thermometer with petroleum jelly and then place the baby on his back on a changing table and then lift his legs as if you were going to change his diaper. Then slide the thermometer in about half an inch into the rectum.
(3) Got a picky eater? No worry, picky eating is actually normal. As long as your baby is growing and gaining weight there should be no concern about his picky eating habits. It normally takes between ten and fifteen tries before your child will accept a new food.
Look for more tips to come. For now,
