At some point you may deal with a rebellious daughter. It is very difficult to watch someone you care about struggle with her testimony. It can be even more difficult to watch her make decisions that can lead to a much more difficult life. It is important to keep an eternal perspective when dealing with a rebellious daughter.
You should always make it clear to your daughter that you love her, no matter what her choices are. This will leave doors open so that she can come to you when she is ready to change her behavior or when she needs help. Your daughter will benefit from knowing that you love her unconditionally.
While you do need to make it clear you love your daughter, you should not condone her behavior. If she is living at home you can enforce the rules of the home. This may mean that she dresses modestly at home or that she attends church on Sundays while she is at home. It may mean that you do not allow drinking at home or other bad behavior. It is important for her to realize that there are consequences for her actions.
It is also important to remember that your daughter can still live a positive life as a good person, even if she does stray from the church. You should praise the positive aspects of her behavior. Take the time to recognize the times that she is kind to others and the responsibilities that she takes on. As you appreciate your daughter for the person that she is, your relationship will improve.
No matter what you should keep in mind the promises of the Atonement. She will have a chance to repent and return to the gospel. She will have the opportunity to change. It is also important to remember the positive qualities of your daughter as she struggles with other areas in her life.
