Simple Elegance: 2007 Trend in Home Decorating

If you would like to read more about the top ten trends in furniture this year, you can see what Candice Olson of Divine Design has to say HERE. “Simple Yet Elegant” was listed as number seven, but Ms. Olson stated that this is the mantra for décor in 2007.

This trend has been emerging for some time now. Homeowners want style and elegance, but comfort is the main concern. If it can be combined with elegance, that’s even better. This trend includes fabrics and other materials that are cozy, attractive, and low maintenance. It includes relaxed and soothing colors and furniture and accessories that are easy to care for and never fussy.

This is an important move toward practicality in my opinion. I’ve long believed that it makes no sense to create a picture perfect space if it is not conducive to everyday living. Families need to live in living rooms and have fun in family rooms.

Another sign that times and trends are changing to better incorporate practicality is the newfound appreciation for space saving pieces. Instead of the grand pieces often displayed in the most stylish homes, families are choosing pieces that fit not only their spaces but also their lifestyles. Double duty pieces are also popular, since they help save even more space and often provide hidden storage for that streamlined feel that helps make any space appear more elegant.

Call it casual elegance, simple elegance, or anything else you like. I believe this trend will continue. It accommodates the greatest number of people, because it allows for tasteful good looks along with livable comfort. For many homeowners, it’s the perfect combination. It allows for beautiful, inviting spaces in which to entertain while also ensuring the home is comforting and comfortable for the family on an everyday basis.
