You may have decided to start coming back to church on a regular basis as a New Year’s Resolution. This can be a tricky process, because you need to form a new habit. It is important that you stick to your new resolution. Here are five tips to make the transition easier for you.
1) Be consistent in going to church. If you make it a point to go every week for several weeks in a row, then you are more likely to continue going. Attending church will become the norm again, and it will be easier for you to continue to go to church. It is also important to attend all of the meetings each Sunday. This will give you a chance to meet more people in your ward.
2) Prepare everything the night before. This includes laying out your Sunday clothes, finding your shoes, your keys and your scriptures. It is amazing how hard stuff is to find when you are stressed out and running late.
3) If you have small children that you will be taking with you, prepare an activity bag for them. This can include pages to color, books to look out and small treats to eat during Sacrament meeting. You should also prepare your children for Primary. You can explain to them that they will be attending a class with other children their age.
4) Reach out to the members in your ward. You may be surprised at how many people greet you when you come back to church. If you reach out and form friendships this will help you to feel welcome and supported as you attend each week.
5) Pray about your resolution and ask Heavenly Father for His support and help. He can give you the strength to accomplish this task, and help you through other areas in your life.
