Back to the Future Part II

Back to the Future Part II” takes place right where the first movie left off. Marty returns home and is met immediately by Doc, who tells him that Marty has to go to the future and that Jennifer, Marty’s girlfriend should come as well. Seems their future children are in big trouble, as are future Marty and Jennifer. So Marty, Jennifer and Doc take off to the future where the mess really begins. Marty must figure out how to stop his son from being arrested his family from falling apart (which ironically all stems from an incident yet to take place in their own time, though they don’t know it when they first go to the future).

Through a series of events and mistakes, Marty takes a sports almanac that covers 1955-2015 (they year they go to in the future). It ends up in the hands of Biff, George McFly’s nemesis from the first movie. Biff from 2015 takes the DeLorean while Marty and Doc are distracted and brings the almanac to himself in the past. 1955 Biff uses the knowledge to make a fortune and change 1989 (Marty’s present). So when Marty and Doc return to 1989, it is vastly different. Marty discovers his father is dead (murdered by Biff) and his mother is married to Biff (who is a drunk and abusive). So they must go back to 1955 and set the time line right again by retrieving the almanac, all while trying to avoid himself from his first trip to 1955.

The “Back to the Future” trilogy has always been a favorite of mine (even if Part III isn’t as good as the other two, I still like it). I was actually able to see the future Hill Valley while visiting family out in California courtesy of the tram ride at Universal Studios. I was 12 at the time, and always thought it was the coolest thing to be able to see a real movie set. I don’t know if they still offer the ride, but I’d definitely recommend it if you ever get a chance to go.

The movie can get a tad confusing, but it’s a really good sequel to a great movie. It may be more appropriate for viewers ages 9/10 and up, because of some language and subject matter and just being able to understand the movie in the first place.

Back to the Future II stars Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson and Thomas F. Wilson and is rated PG.
