They’ve been around for almost two years, but suddenly it’s mews all over town! Pit’r Pat Mints, the newest product manufactured by Chomp Inc. is the “Listerine” of the feline community. This breath freshener for cats was named the best new product of 2003 and has been selling “briskly” every since. The mints received an Editor’s Choice Award from Pet Products News. That’s quite an honor, considering that in order to be selected for such an award, an editorial board reviews thousands of new products and also tests all the contenders. (That’s makes for a lot of mints to bite off and then chew.)
Cats love the taste of these fish shaped mints that come in a .25 ounce tin just like those fancy, human “after tea” mints. They, along with Yip Yap and Sniffers for dogs, instantly appeal to consumers. Pets love them because they are made from their favorite treat ingredients, including cooked liver. The mints range in price from $1.99 to $3.99 per package and are available in over 20,000 pet retail stores throughout the nation as well as through Internet sources.
The major ingredients are somewhat mystical and sound terribly scientific: maltodextrin, liver, sodium phosphate, vegetable oil, silicon dioxide, mixed tocopherios and lecithin. It is, however, the green tea extract and and chlorophyllin that effectively freshen kitty breath. (Now you will never know when your beloved feline has been out smoking cigars or drinking too much beer with the boys. His or her breath will never give it away.)
The cat has long been let out of the bag and Chomp Inc, has become the toast of the “mews” world. The company was recently featured on CNN News, Live with Regis and Kelly and Good Morning America. Located in Lebanon, New Jersey, they are the primary manufacturers of “pet candy.” The company is the creative brainchild of two dog lovers, sisters and former design professionals. Their advertising is clever and appealing, promising, for example, that if your pet attacked the tin of mints and you send them the chewed up tin and the story behind it, they will then send you a free product! They are also the first company in the nation to put “dog candy” into vending machines at highway rest areas! For more information on their wonderful products, visit their web site at (www.chompinc.com).
The mints should be dispensed as treats, whenever the whim strikes. One testimonial claims that “these (mints) are the best things on the market since sliced bread!” Another swears that the mints “will make sweet kitten breath even out of the mouth of a garbage-can-raiding tom cat”! You might even be tempted to taste one yourself. This is not recommended, however as there is no telling where such action may take you. Perhaps it will whirl you into a world of beer-drinking, cigar-smoking felines who know full well how to cover their tracks!
