We’re always reading about the latest celebrity split and marveling that some of those relationships last even five minutes in the glaring stage lights of celebrity and paparazzi. So it should come to no surprise that some celebrities take very special steps to preserve their marriages and to keep their relationships steady and strong.
Making headlines recently in this very area is Patrick Dempsey. You may remember him from the movie Mobsters with Christian Slater or know him from the part that has launched him to super stardom as Dr. McDreamy on the very popular Grey’s Anatomy. The actor regularly visits a marriage guidance counselor with his wife Jillian in order to keep their marriage and their relationship on an even keel.
Shifting Priorities
In a recent article, Dempsey admitted that his priorities shifted from a successful career to maintaining a happy family life and he gives a great deal of credit to the regular sessions with the marriage counselor in helping his family to achieve their domestic success. He believes they have had a good relationship from the beginning and the therapy sessions are like a chance to tune-up the issues they need to work on.
Becoming a father gave him a great deal of inspiration to look at himself and his marriage. If there is room for improvement, he wants to do this. If there is room for him to grow, he wants to do that. Ultimately, he wants to create a stable environment for his wife, himself and their children. They have a four-year-old daughter and his wife Jillian is pregnant with twin boys currently.
Celebrity Inspiration
I’d have to say Patrick Dempsey must be doing something right, his career is taking off, but his focus remains on his family and I applaud the positive use they have made of marriage counseling and wish them continued good fortunes in maintaining a healthy marriage.
