Award Show Secrets

Do you ever watch the award shows – the Golden Globes, the Academy Awards, etc. – and wonder how the women can look so effortlessly beautiful? They usually (note I said USUALLY) have spectacular gowns, flawless hair and makeup, and beautifully jeweled shoes. CNN.com revealed that there are a few secrets used to help them look “naturally” beautiful.

What kind of secrets to the stars possess that we mere mortals do not have access to? You probably know that many are offered their pick of designer gowns well in advance of the shows. After they pick the gown, most have stylists that work overtime to help them look beautiful, going to work about six weeks before the show.

One must have item is a tan. If the star didn’t have time to get a tan naturally by sunning on a Caribbean island, there is no need to worry. Jimmy Coco says he uses his airbrush-tanning wand about 100 times if not more before major award ceremonies. The stars leave with a glowing tan, which makes them look healthier. Unless they look unnaturally orange, which I have seen on occasion.

What else do the stars have to endure to look beautiful? Well, there are the undergarments. While you probably think they just have on the standard bra and panties, there is actually more to the story than that. No matter what shape the star is in, they probably are wearing some type of body-shaping undergarment. Some celebs wear Spanx, which controls problems such as love handles, dunlap (you know, belly dunlapped over your waistline), and even covers cellulite. Gasp – celebrities have cellulite? Yes, they are human too, despite how well put together they usually appear. The Spanx often covers from the bust line to the knees, leaving a seamless, bump less line for those great gowns.

If you see a beauty is a dress that seems to defy gravity, you can probably thank Frederick’s of Hollywood for the self-sticking bras. Celebrities who are mammatarily (yes, I just made up that word) challenged may use cutlets to help enhance their bust line. Then there are certain tricks, such as cotton balls and tape, to cover nipples that are used for celebrities that decide to go braless.

Surgical and double sided tape is also a must have item. They are used to enhance cleavage and to keep the dress taped down to there is no gown malfunction. Tape can also be used to hold spaghetti straps in place. Stars who wear silk might turn to Botox to help paralyze their sweat glands to keep from ruining a dress.

Wow, after reading all that goes into getting ready, I am not quite so jealous of how “effortlessly” beautiful the stars appear on the red carpet!
