This week’s dinner discussions are based on lesson two in the manuals. Hopefully your ward has not gotten off track at this point in the year, but if you have you may need to adjust accordingly. Remember to keep the lessons positive and upbeat. This is a time to reinforce the gospel, and you should make it a positive experience for your family.
If you have a child in Nursery or Sunbeams he learned that Heavenly Father has a body. The lesson discussed that Jesus Christ looks like Heavenly Father. The children learned that prophets have seen Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. They talked about Joseph Smith’s first vision. You may want to talk about the importance of our bodies with your children.
If you have a child between the ages of four and seven she learned about the Plan of Salvation. They talked about how Heavenly Father trusts each of them to choose the right, so that they can return to live with Him. You may want to review the plan of salvation with your children this week. It is important to point out that while we all have choices to make, we do not get to choose the consequences of our actions.
If you have a child between the ages of eight and eleven he learned about the council in heaven, where Jesus Christ volunteered to be our Savior. They also discussed the Plan of Salvation. You may want to discuss the importance of understanding where we came from before we came to earth. The reading assignment for the week is Moses 4:1-4.
If you have a child who is twelve or thirteen she learned about Lehi’s vision of the iron rod. The lesson focused on using the scriptures as a guiding tool during difficult times. The scriptures can help you stay on the right path during difficult times. The class was challenged to begin daily scripture study on their own; you may want to encourage this as well.
For members over the age of fourteen the lesson studied the lives of Elisabeth, Zacharias, John the Baptist, Joseph and Mary. The lesson talked about the faith of each of these people to accept the calling of the Lord in preparing the way for the Savior. These lives were testimonies for each of us, of the divinity of the Savior. The reading for next week is Luke 2, Matthew 2.
If you have a daughter in Young Women’s she learned about spiritual gifts. If you have son in Young Men’s he learned about building a relationship with his Heavenly Father. The Relief Society and Priesthood lessons were based on the first lesson in the Spencer W. Kimball manual. The lesson was about the plan of salvation. Next week’s lesson is on lesson 2 “Tragedy or Destiny?”
