I will be the first to admit that after going through my divorce, I was not real sure where or how to start over. I found myself the single mother of two terrific children but virtually no social life. I remember feeling unsure of the dating scene, which is why I decided to give online dating a try. What I discovered was both good and bad, which I wanted to share with you. I hope that through some of my own failures and successes, you too can find the right online dating sites to meet nice, honest man.
The first site I joined was eHarmony. After all, it seemed like the most reputable and honorable solution. The truth was that I met one man in the six months I was on the site worth talking to. His name was Richard, a nice man who lived in Georgia, a far way from Missouri where I lived. We communicated for about five months but due to distance, never met. However, over the five-month period, I learned enough to know that not only was I not interested in meeting Richard but I was also not interested in sending eHarmony any more of my money.
I then joined Yahoo Personals, another recommended site that had both good and bad points. The positive side was that I could meet plenty of men and most from within close proximity. Again, I met one particular man named Steve. He told me he owned his own business building homes. After talking for a few weeks, we decided to meet. Steve was nice enough but unfortunately, learning about his severe problem with body odor over the phone was impossible. Once we met, I realized this issue was something I did not care to deal with so I gave up on Yahoo.
Next, I joined Match.com. Although most of the men I spoke to were nice enough, it seemed the ones I was most interested in were far away and the ones that lived nearby, just not people I would be interested in meeting. My final membership was to a online dating site called LoveandSeek.com. I have to say that of all the online sites, this last one was my favorite. As a Christian based dating site, I discovered the majority of men were interesting, honest, and looking for the same thing as me.
Although I went through money subscribing to each of these sites and I did meet some wonderful people, I never met that special someone. Interestingly, three months ago, I was out listening to friends of mine in a rock and roll band. While there, a mutual friend of the drummer’s showed up. We began to talk and have seen each other almost every day since. His name is Bill and he is truly the most wonderful man I think I have ever met. I am not saying anything bad about online dating because I know that for some people, this form of meeting people works. However, from my experience, you need to set realistic expectations, ask tons of questions, and perhaps be open to travel.
