The Magic of the Magic Kingdom ….it’s not just for kids!

I’ll admit to anyone who wants to know – I’m a 100% Disney fan, and don’t think there’s a better place to have a vacation than in one of the Disney World parks. One of my dreams is to take my two boys to the Magic Kingdom before they get to that awkward age when they’re too old to see the magic and too young to appreciate the idea, but at the moment health issues have me banned from long-haul travel.

As each birthday passes I wonder if we’re going to make it, or whether they’ll be rolling their eyes at their mother’s enthusiasm for Cinderella’s Castle and having a photo taken with Mickey. Of course, by then they’ll be used to their mom wearing Minnie Mouse nightshirts, and baseball caps with other Disney characters on them, and that’ll probably be ok …probably… because that’s just the way mom is, but for them, it could be super uncool to be seen getting hugged by Chip ‘n’ Dale, or Goofy!

As I watch them grow, I wonder if they’ll take after their pappa, or me, in this respect. I know that Mikael’s dreading this much anticipated visit, and it’s kinda hanging over his head like a raincloud over Eeyore! He’s just not into Disney at all – but that’s ok, I have enough enthusiasm for both of us. I can’t wait to get there, we don’t even have a date when I’ll be cleared to travel, and he’s already wishing he was home!

Grown-ups think it’s fun to go to the other Disney parks, but generally the Magic Kingdom is thought to be for younger members of the family, but it’s not just for little kids. Although it’s a quieter park than some of the others, there’s still something in the air that makes you believe in the Magic of Disney. There’s a gentler pace here, one that is in direct opposition to the level of excitement you find in the eyes of the young children who are waiting in line for one attraction or another.

As a mother who loves this part of the Disney empire, I can’t wait to fulfill my dream of sharing this park with my children – and as a “grown-up” who never quite grew up, I’m thankful to have a great excuse to return to the Magic Kingdom!
