Good morning and welcome to Monday, it’s the end of the weekend and we’re back in business here. I took the weekend off looking to rest, refresh and get my head screwed back on straight. In the last 10 days, two old friends of mine died. I’d not seen either in a few years – but it didn’t lessen the impact of their deaths on how I was feeling or the self-examination I put myself through. This weekend, I made a decision – too often we put off the things we’re going to do.
We’ll take a vacation next year.
We’ll join the gym next year.
We’ll have a baby when the time is right.
We’ll go back to school when we can balance our funds.
Life is About Living
This is hardly a new philosophy and I’m far from the first one to come to this realization. I’ve come to it many times before, but as always, life has a way of grabbing the reins and taking off and you have two choices – you can cling on dearly for life and let it keep running away, or you can grab the reins and take life back under some semblance of control.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll go for the latter choice. This weekend marked my return to the philosophy that life is about living. I spent the weekend with my family, I stopped trying to fit in working in every hour of every day and I even spent a couple of hours at the Natural History Museum with my daughter. We played with Dance, Dance Revolution and we even strapped on our roller skates to go out and get in some roller skating practice.
It was a blast. Today, I ratchet up my workout and get off the regular routine of just getting it done and getting back into the challenge of what can I do?
What Can I Do?
The treadmill workout continues, I love it too much to give that up. But we’re going to add in a couple of miles of roller skating for the fun of it. My work schedule is going to be more regimented – designed to let me spend more time with my family and on my hobbies and more. This is what I can do.
What can you do?
Basic Training: 2 miles on the treadmill, 15 minutes upper body weights, 20 minutes of Daybreak Yoga, breathing and stretching
