Let me start by saying, wow! I was blown away when I heard this on the news last night while watching highlights of the Bear’s game, and I looked up the story today for more details. It’s about a school teacher named Colleen Pavelka, and she’s become the model of the perfect wife for many husbands who are ardent football fans.
Colleen Pavelka decided to have the birth of her baby induced Friday so her husband Mark could attend the Chicago Bear’s Playoff game against the New Orleans Saints. Sure, it was a big game, leading the Bears to the Super Bowl, but this gives new meaning to the idea of being a good sport!
Would you induce the birth of your baby to get labor out of the way in time for NFL Championship Sunday? Apparently, Mrs. Pavelka is a Bear’s fan as well and intended to watch the game from her hospital bed. I’m glad the Bear’s didn’t disappoint! It was an awesome game ending with the Bears up by 25, for a final score of 39 – 14.
The baby was born Friday night. The Pavelka’s named him Mark like his daddy. Congratulations to them. I hope mom and baby are doing well.
You just never know what might happen during football playoffs. I’m a huge Bear’s fan, and I’d normally do most anything for my husband, but would I do this? I’m not so sure. However, before anyone judges Mrs. Pavelka too harshly, I did learn that her doctor gave her the green light for inducement on Friday, saying the baby was ready. Still, many people have very strong opinions about this, from news commentators and fans to those who left comments on the Fox Sports site after reading about it there.
