Things are about to heat up for a former Spice Girl… Emma “Baby Spice” Bunton is pregnant with her first child, according to PEOPLE magazine.
“I guess I will be handing over the ‘Baby’ tag now to a deserving little new owner,” the 31-year-old mom-to-be said in a statement.
According to PEOPLE, the baby’s father is Bunton’s boyfriend Jade Jones, a former member of the British boy band Damage. The couple has been together for eight years and recently purchased a five-bedroom home in north London together.
Bunton says the news of her impending arrival is that much sweeter because of the physical challenges she has endured over the last few years. You’ll recall in 2000, Bunton had to have pre-cancerous cells removed from her cervix. Then just last year, she revealed she’d been diagnosed with endometriosis, a painful condition in which the lining of the uterus begins growing in other areas of the body, making it difficult to conceive.
Last month Bunton told the U.K.’s “The Mirror” that she feared she would never be able to have a baby of her own and was open to adopting a child. Now she says any adoption plans she may have had are on hold as she and Jones prepare for their new addition.
Coincidentally, Bunton isn’t the only former Spice Girl expecting a baby. Former Spice Girl – Melanie “Scary Spice” Brown, who was recently linked to Eddie Murphy, is expecting her second child in the spring. The new babies will join the rest of the Spice Girl brood (perhaps the next generation of Spice Girls), which includes Geri Halliwell’s 8-month-old daughter and Victoria Beckham’s three children.
Bunton said she hopes her pregnancy will illustrate to other women who suffer with endometriosis that it is possible to conceive naturally. She advised “Mirror” readers: “Don’t give up on hope.”
